Stop • Look • Listen

Stop • Look • Listen

For 14 years the 6'7" tall actor Dave Prowse MBE, played the part of a Road Safety conscious Super Hero called The Green Cross Code Man. He knew he wouldn’t always be there to help us so he often handed out badges with the wise words like; STOP, LOOK, LISTEN. As well as appearing on television, Dave Prowse did many public appearances. We like to think he came to visit Lewisham but our memories are hazy. The Green Cross Code Man had a pleasing Bristol accent and a special watch that made him disappear. Teachers in the 70s would put crosses in red pen in your school books if you made mistakes. The Green Cross Code Man was cross that children were losing their lives by walking out behind parked cars but no one knows the significance of the colour green. The colour green tends to represent either jealousy or nature. Maybe they chose green because it just looked nice? It doesn’t matter. The important thing is that Le Document readers always find a safe place to cross.
