Calm by Estelle Woolley

Calm by Estelle Woolley

'Calm', is a pencil study on paper based on a photographic self portrait from Estelle Woolley's lockdown series, 'Pandemic Self Portraits' where she foraged different natural materials on her daily walks, paying close attention to the plant life as it comes in and out of season. Finding nature therapeutic and inspiring in this challenging time she created a series of facemasks from delicate and ephemeral materials, including different plants, flowers, leaves and insects. 'Calm' depicts wild chamomile flowers, traditionally used as an ancient herbal medicine to promote a sense of calm and relaxation in times of unease.

Estelle Woolley gained her Degree and Masters in Fine Art from The University of Chester, UK. She recently gained highly commended in the Sustainability First Art Prize with her moss mask self portrait ‘Breathe’, was picked up as axis art highlight of the week with her foxglove mask ‘Poison’, featured in the Wales Arts Review, the New York Magazine, the Danish newspaper ‘Politiken’, and the front cover of the Ty Pawb Open with her wildflower mask image ‘Rainbow Meadow’.  She is currently showing in New York, London, Colorado and Miami.
