Le Document — Issue Seven

Le Document — Issue Seven

Welcome to issue 7 of Le Document. Lockdown is finally easing and it looks like there is some light at the end of the tunnel. We know some of you will be living in a very different world compared to three months ago and some will be facing very difficult economic challenges but Le Document will be here to make you smile, think and even challenge your preconceptions. We must move forward, there is no other direction to travel.

Harry and I broke lockdown on the 4 July by meeting at a Wetherspoon’s pub in central London and visiting the opening exhibition at the Stash Gallery. Sophie Parkin’s intimate retrospective of self-portraits were a pleasure.

To Le Document business. Firstly we want to welcome Rochelle Roberts, who will be our new Poetry Editor. She opens this special Poetry issue of Le Document with an insightful essay on e. e. cummings. She also has selected a poem for this months issue by Momtaza Mehri.

Andrew Petrie contributes a short review/essay on the Negativland’s groundbreaking album Escape From Noise (SST, 1987).

All the regular features are here to including a beautiful Painting of the Month from Uzma Sultan. Peter Suchin delivers a critical analysis of the sound recording of the opera IRMA by Tom Philips and Harry Pye has sketched out an interesting timeline of the psychoanalyst Sigmund Freud.

Pet of the Month is a cat from Falmouth and Badge of the Month is a minimal masterpiece. Plus we have Cancer Star sign insights from Jo Mama, a fantastic Q&A with David Quantick and Derek Hampson has been awarded Artist of the Month.

Harry and I want to say a big thank you to all our contributors and we hope you, the reader, will enjoy these offerings just as much as we did while compiling issue 7.

Vive Le Document
