Le Document — Issue Thirteen

Welcome to Issue 13. We made it through the festive celebrations and survived the last minute tier 4 restrictions. 2020 gave way to 2021, and we all breathed a sigh of relief when Biden was finally acknowledged as the new President elect. Finger’s crossed Trump disappears without a trace. America, we’re so glad you woke up and smelt the coffee, now get on with your lives.

A little closer to home and we transitioned from being a member of the EU to now being a funny little island floating alongside a 27 strong federal land mass. A bit like those small tug boats that help guide a cruise ship out of port. Let’s see what happens next. We haven’t imploded which is a good sign but I can’t help but think everyone who voted for this so-called freedom will quite literally pay when the corporations pass on their increased running costs straight down to Joe Public. Let’s watch how the cost of living rises over the next few years. I’m sure the Big Mac Index will reveal some interesting data over time …

This issue has everything you need to fend off the January blues. We have the perfect pet from Lewisham who knows when to stay in and when to go out. Poem of the month, selected by our resident Poetry editor Rochelle Roberts, is a hard hitting poem that should make you sit up and think about the problems of the culture we live in. Our Drawing of the Month is a set of sketches made by an unknown artist, if you recognise the work contact us and we would love to put a name to the work. Badge of the Month comes from Dickie Steeple and Photo of the Month is by Alex Chappell.

Dave Devant & His Spirit Wife has kicked off a new feature called Video of the Month. It’s worth pointing out that the song was released to support the campaign CALM.

'Putting My Demons To Bed' is the next single to be released from David Devant's L.P. "Cut Out And Keep Me". The band wants to wish everyone a happy new year and to bring your attention to CALM. The Campaign Against Living Miserably is leading a movement against suicide. Every week 125 people in the UK take their own lives. And 75% of all UK suicides are male. CALM exists to change this.

We have a Q&A with Sheenagh Pugh and a very provocative Single of the Month from Marianne Dissard who has covered Richie Valens great tune Come On, Let's Go! Check the video out, it’s beautiful. There's also a Q & A with Susan Finlay who is the author of Le Document's Book of the Month, My Other Spruce & Maple Self.

Happy Reading, Chris and Harry
